This beautiful antique Chinese red lacquered hat box was made for the storage of officials' hats. Being 19th century It shows some signs of its age and the decoration has almost worn off which gives it a look of faded elegance.
Traditionally, these boxes were decorated with village scenes from an opera or poem and were primarily found in Shanxi province. Made from pliable poplar wood.
