Painted Sideboard From Mongolia With Snow Lions - 19thC

Painted Sideboard From Mongolia With Snow Lions - 19thC

This exceptional red painted Mongolian sideboard would make a spectacular feature piece in any room - it has the original painting dating from the 19th century depicting snow lions, a traditional symbol of the 'Free Tibet' movement.

Mongolian Sideboards were usually made from locally sourced wood, normally Elm, Poplar or Pine.

These cabinets were used by nomadic people for storage of clothes and bedding or grain. Also used as altar cabinets for family ancestor worship. From Inner Mongolia China.

The front doors have been modified from the original closed front to make it more functional as this sideboard would have originally opened from the top by a hatch. Like many pieces of oriental furniture, this sideboard would originally have been deeper and it has been reduced in depth to make it more suitable for a modern home. Three internal shelves have also been added.

Such a beautiful piece of furniture that would look fabulous in a bedroom or sitting room.
