Japanese Choba Dansu - Meiji Period

This Japanese choba dansu merchant chest dates from the Meiji Period (1868 - 1912). It isĀ made in the traditional Osaka style from kiri wood.

It has multiple compartments, drawers & sliding doors. Light, but well made and in the traditional way, this Japanese tansu has its original black painted iron fittings.

As with most Japanese furniture, the carpentry is excellent and although it is lightweight, it is extremely well made. It has very functional sliding doors & drawers. All the iron fittings are original to the piece.Ā
