Gilt Bronze Statue Of Vairochana Buddha

Gilt Bronze Statue Of Vairochana Buddha

This beautiful gilt brass Buddha is the Vairochana Buddha. Vairochana is the meditation Buddha and the universal form of Shakyamuni Buddha, a special Buddha in the early history of Tantric Buddhism.

Here Vairochana sits atop a lotus throne, hands clasped in the dharmachakra mudra with the thumb and index finger of both hands touching to form circles. This gesture depicts the turning of the doctrine wheel (Wheel of Dharma) preaching the union of method and wisdom.

This is a reproduction piece, beautifully carved in the traditional way in an imitation of traditional Tibetan & Chinese bronzes.
