Carved Teak Door & Frame From Kutch - 19th Century

Carved Teak Door & Frame From Kutch - 19th Century

This beautifully carved Indian antique door is from The Rann of Kutch. Constructed from teak wood and dating to the 19th century these sturdy doors are topped with beautiful, deep floral carvings which are themselves flanked by ornate corbels. These doors are truly a magnificent example of traditional Indian craftsmanship.

These doors are saved from buildings in India which have fallen into a state of disrepair and are no longer in a repairable state. As with most Indian doors, they would have originally operated on a pin and post system and not on hinges. At the top of the door, you can see a chain for padlocking the doors shut when leaving the home. The frame has been customised to allow for hanging with modern hinges. They would have originally opened inwards.

Although this is a heavy piece, Indigo Antiques have a trained delivery team to bring it into your home. We can provide assembly advice to your builders however we will need to discuss your hinge and hanging requirements before arranging delivery. Hinges may incur a small additional charge depending on your specifications.
