This beautifully patinated food bowl is from Nagaland in the North Eastern area of India bordering Myanmar. These food bowls were used every day by the Konyak tribe for eating meals.

Nagaland is still a tribal area with the Konyak tribe being one of the largest tribes. Historically, the tribes of Nagaland were head-hunters going to war with neighboring tribes. Men of the tribes were heavily tattooed across their bodies including on their faces. This culture changed dramatically with modern Christianity in the early 20th century.Ā
